Hospitality Matters

It’s really easy to dislike having people in your home. It can feel strangely vulnerable and sometimes scary; especially if your natural inclination is to be more of a loner. But even the most outgoing of us can have a hard time when we factor in our own insecurities.

Let’s face it. We can come up with a million reasons not to mess with hospitality.

Not everyone has the same parenting style as you. Not everyone has the same idiosyncrasies as you. It can be intimidating to cook for people. You just don’t have time. The list of excuses can go on and on. Really. It can (I have personal experience, believe me).

I don’t know about you, but I love a good conversation over a cup of coffee or tea. I love getting beyond the surface subjects and going deeper. I love getting to the heart level; that sacred place of rich soil that is fertilized by vulnerability. The farther you go in a friendship the more humility is required; the more you must shed the layers that surround your heart that give the illusion of protection.
