When I was 12 years old, I felt a heavy desire and calling from the Lord to work with women and children someday. A few years later, I decided that I wanted to be a counselor! I had no idea how God would intertwine these two loves I had for counseling people, and loving on women and children.
I consider myself a creative person, but have always had a great interest in the medical field. I started out my career path wanting to be a labor and delivery nurse, or work in the ER. I finished EMT training, but life circumstances prevented me from completing the certification process. By the time life had calmed down, it had just been too long since I had finished my course, and I feared I wouldn’t be able to pass the exam. The doors kept shutting…but God was still faithful.
In March of 2014, I learned that both a good friend of mine and my cousin had delivered out of the hospital, with midwives. I was enamored by their powerful stories of giving birth naturally without pain medication, and using things like birth balls and essential oils in labor. I remember thinking to myself…”Wait, people still use midwives?!” My knowledge of birth at that time was very minimal.
From that point on, a fire was ignited in my soul. I grabbed anything I could get my hands on to learn as much as I could about midwifery. I contacted several birth centers in my area, and Edenway Birth Center responded to me. After corresponding for several months, and coming out to visit Edenway, I took a leap of faith. I quit my job in Southlake, TX, and moved to Cleburne on September 8th, 2014, to start a 3-month trial period as a student here at Edenway. Within the 1st month, I knew this was where I was supposed to be! It’s been amazing to see how all these puzzle pieces finally fit together that brought me to midwifery. I graduated from midwifery school with the Association of Texas Midwives in March of 2018.
My passion for midwifery and caring for mommas and babies is unwavering. It is my heart’s desire to empower and educate women to know how strong they truly are, and to believe it by the end of their experience with me. Birth is sacred, and I love that midwifery offers complete and holistic care for not only mom and baby, but for the entire family. I believe that good education and proper informed consent does wonders in empowering families when making important decisions regarding your care and the care of your baby. It is the utmost honor to care for you and your family during one of the most vulnerable experiences you’ll ever have in this lifetime. I would be so incredibly excited to meet with you and your family!
